| Depending on the number and severity of the tooth affected root canal procedures are done. The root canal procedure involves desensitizing the tooth area with a local anesthesia or mild sedation and drilling a hole into the tooth cavity. The drilling of cavity to the pulp region could be from the back of the tooth or top of the tooth. The dentist cleans the infected area and seals the cavity with a proper filling. The canal is usually filled with gutta percha, a flexible plastic material. Sometimes a temporary crown is fixed on top of the crown to protect from dental decay. There is some pain for 2-3 days following the treatment. |
